Vision task force

This task force has been disbanded.
The DataPortability Project officially ratified the final output of this task force 27 October 2008. Current version available here: Vision & mission

Goal: A draft document will be circulated to Steering in early September, on what we believe should be the official vision of the DataPortability Project. The purpose of this exercise is that so that
we have:

  • direction: we know where to focus our efforts to align things with
    that view
  • a framework: we can evaluate things (ie, company announcements),
    with respects to our vision
  • Consistency: We can be more consistent with what we say, and things
like our missions to our branding can be derived from the common
document. It will be the central node for everything we do.

Work papers
This is to research historical statements of what DataPortability's goals, positions, vision and mission are. Please reference comments or articles that relate to vision of the Project or interpretations of what "data portability" is.

Vision & mission

  • Other mailing lists*
  • As suggested by the Steering group, the first draft of the vision will only have research from the original workgroup, in the interests of time for this important piece of work

Softer stuff drafts
This is an approach led by Phil Wolff, on a more 'story' based approach to the vision as opposed to the scientific approach above with the research of the past

  1. Pain stories - vision.TF. "It hurts when I..."
  2. Joy stories - vision.TF. "Once upon a time..."
  3. [dpmain:Solution Elements - vision.TF]. Elements of the solution at a combined very high level of abstraction and very gut level of humanity. "You know you're living in a world with data portability when..."
  4. [dpmain:Goals - vision.TF]. "We will send a man to walk on the moon and safely return him to Earth by the end of the decade." Not specifying how, but when, and the next big stages.
  5. [dpmain:Values and Principles - vision.TF]. Articulating the social norms that guide us.
