Notes:

A. Legal Project Update (Brady Brim-DeForest)
+ General Update - making progress, still could use more people helping Brady
+ Liberty Alliance as interim solution overview
+ Firm proposal on Liberty Alliance interim option authored by Brady in the Wiki page, ready for specific discussion in two weeks (May 26th call)

B. Governance Taskforce Update (Elias Bizannes)
+ Elias has been under work pressure, slow work
    + Compiling notes on: http://wiki.dataportability.org/x/l4Ej
+ Conference calls are needed to discuss, work on idea

C. Steering Group Call Frequency (J. Trent Adams)
+ Should we open the weekly calls to the broader community
+ Concensus is that weekly Steering calls are useful - keep them as-is
+ Trent will reach out to encourage others to hold similar calls as needed

D. Formalized DataPortability Blog (Brady Brim-DeForest)
+ Take over control of the "DataPortability.WordPress.com" blog as the common blog.
    + Remap domain to "blog.dataportability.org"
+ Is there any concern about multiple authors and personal opinions sneaking in?
    + Solutions can be found
+ Proposal: Blog Task Force, shepherded by Mary Trigiani

E. Community Responses and Discussion (Christian Topf)
+ Reaction to "bad press" by Chris Messina and others
+ What can we do to combat this miconceptions?
+ Possible shift in mission from technical guidelins to think tank model?
+ Elias: don't worry about arguments before real work is ready for debate.
+ Steve: maybe it'd help to focus on other groups, talk more about them, less about DataPortability
+ Steve: add a link off the DataPortability.org site, linking to simple list of "data portability" projects
+ Phil: concern that there's only one voice out in the wild = Chris Saad
+ Daniela: everyone can reach out and nominate themselves to talk at conferences and to press
+ Brady: people who are contacted can try to help spread the conversation more widely
+ Elias: it might help to send Elias a bullet list of items needing attention and he'll compile them (consolidated feedback on May 19th call)

F. Wiki Cleanup (Elias) [in-call addition]
+ Some kind of "prioritization" task force is needed.
+ Perhaps in tandem with the Blog project lead by Mary
+ Mary will provide an overview of what is needed for both F and D next call (May 19th)

G. Upcoming Events: [in-call addition]
    + LA Meetup on May 24th - http://wiki.dataportability.org/x/NgwR
+ SecondLife Meetup every Sunday at 11am PDT

Conference call recording, back channel transcript

Next meetings

  •  May 19th, 2008 - 21:00 GMT

Feedback on the meeting itself

  •  Meeting was too long, and could would have been more beneficial to transition some discussion into other channels more quickly.  Possibly following Robers Rules of Order.
