The DataPortability Project is a volunteer, flat-hierarchy organisation that is decentralised in its operation.
The Project has become a community hub to discuss:-
- User rights over data
- Broad policy issues that tackle issues such as the rights vendors & users have over user data.
- Open standards in the area
- Discussing the technical weaknesses with the standards
- Best practices for implementation
- Promotion of the idea that data portability is important both for users and the Services they use
Problem Specifics
There is a long list of Use Cases describing the types of problems DataPortability is interested in. Many of these revolve around importing and exporting your data from Social Networks.
