Overview

To ensure a good experience for users, and to prevent an overload of traffic between applications, this proposal provides methods for subscribing to, and receiving notifications about, changes in a given portable data resource. This is implemented via the standard being discussed at http://www.getpingd.com. Subscriptions and notifications can be performed via a number of conduits - such as HTTP web pings or XMPP.

Technology Purpose

Given a portable data resource for a user, the mechanisms provided by the Getpingd specification will allow for subscription to the resource.

Selection Rationale

The getpingd specification aims to provide a discovery mechanism for methods that are already in wide use today. No other mechanisms are currently known for discovering (and then subscribing in an automated fashion) to changes in that document.

Details of Adoption

Forming a vital component of the final approval process, this section should detail actual real-world implementations of this suggested method; hence showing adoption of the proposal.

Action Group Backing

Members of the action groups that back this implementation should be listed here, as a formal tracking of support for the implementation.
